The Community Engagement Dashboard is a tool that has been created specifically for the Mooresville Tomorrow Comprehensive Plan update.

The Town of Mooresville's overall engagement strategy for updating the comprehensive plan seeks to make equity a priority, and to ensure all residents and stakeholders in the four town wards (and beyond) have the opportunity to engage with project team members throughout the planning process.

Our efforts will be tracked using the Community Engagement Dashboard. The dashboard includes several community indicators that describe the mix of residents living in Mooresville today, including by town ward, gender, age, race or ethnicity, education level, homeownership status, household income, and the number of years lived in town. Existing information (2023) for the indicators comes from Claritas, a proprietary database that draws from the U.S. Census Bureau. It was used over simple census data to pull data specific to town limits and the four town wards.

Participants in all of our in-person and virtual engagement events for the new comprehensive plan will be asked to complete a brief survey, which will be used by the project team to measure participation levels against the community indicators across single events and the project-as-a-whole. The survey is voluntary and not required to participate in a specific event.

You might ask why this is important.

Tracking participation within the comprehensive planning process (who and when) provides the project team with an opportunity to update its approach for future engagement events in real time, if needed, to target under-represented groups in the community. For example, we may decide to schedule an extra meeting with long-time town residents if we feel their voice is not represented in the planning process. Or we might target more advertising for an existing event in one of the town wards if their participation numbers are behind the three others.

The Community Engagement Dashboard will be updated at key milestones in the planning process. The charts and graphs below, also available to the right via the document link, represent participation logged through October 2, 2024. 595 surveys have been returned to date, both in person and via the website or Growth Choices Initiative online survey. Participation at the following events is included in the survey results: 29 stakeholder interviews (42 participants total), Community Idea Exchange Workshop (1/25), three Community Ideas Exchange Office Hour Events (1/30, 2/1, and 2/8), Virtual Community Ideas Exchange Workshop (1/29 to 2/21), Mooresville Day pop-up event, a meeting with the Mooresville Youth Council, two in-person Bring Your Own Question events (7/24 and 7/25), Growth Choices Workshop (8/20), three Growth Choices Office Hour Events (8/22, 8/27, and 8/29), Growth Choices Online Survey (9/6-24), and 60 online dashboard survey responses. See the Engagement Corner tab on this website for more information about these engagement events.
